Empowering Young generations through Inclusive Collaborations (Perpustakaan Jakarta X Bimbingan Belajar Lentera Inklusif)

On Sunday, June 14th, 2026,Perpustakaan Jakarta welcomed a special visit from Bimbingan Belajar Lentera Inklusif for an exciting and educational field trip held at the Bilik Bercerita on the 4th floor. This event was attended by the Founder of Lentera Rumah Inklusif Foundation and Bimbingan Belajar Lentera Inklusif, Sofyan Sukmana, S.Pd., the chairman of Lentera Rumah Inklusif Foundation, Abizard Giffari Nasir, S.Sos., and the team of dedicated teachers. The main participants were 30 children who actively study in Bimbingan Lentera Inklusif, ranging age from 5 to 15. A particularly inspiring highlight of this report is that the founder, the chairman, and some teachers of Bimbingan Lentera Inklusif are visually impaired, and one of the young participants is also partially sighted.
The event was opened by the chairman of Lentera Rumah Inklusif, Abizard Giffari Nasir, S.Sos. through his friendly opening speech. He emphasized that visiting and learning together in Perpustakaan Jakarta was a valuable experience for the children. “Through this field trip activity, participants have the opportunity to know further library facilities to broaden their knowledge, and the process supports the lifelong learning through literacy.” the chairman stated. He added that this inclusive collaboration was proof that access to knowledge can open up more opportunities for each individual to grow and achieve their dreams.
The main activity featured a workshop on making bag charm using colorful straps. This engaging activity was led by a moderator, Ainun Nushratillah Al-Falah and a presenter, Indah Harianin, S.E. Before demonstrating the crafting steps, all children were invited to play an interactive game. They were given the materials of creating bag charms, and the presenter asked the children to find items matching the ones shown on the slideshow. The children looked very excited and enthusiastic following the steps by steps.
The workshop was then followed by a library tour. The children were taken on an encouraging library tour, exploring various spots in Perpustakaan Jakarta guided by the staff. The most memorable experience was when the children visited the Immersive Studio, where they explored Betawi cultural heritage through interactive, immersive technology. The children were incredibly excited during their time in the studio and enjoyed all facilities.
During his visit to Immersive Studio of Perpustakaan Jakarta, the Founder of Lentera Rumah Inklusif and Bimbingan Lentera Inklusif, Sofyan Sukmana, S.Pd. shared his thoughts, "It is such a wonderful experience to bring the children here and introduce Betawi culture alongside the brief history of Jakarta through this advanced technology.” He smiled. However, he also added for future recommendations, “It would be much better if the facilities at this immersive studio were more accessible, such as the use of embossed textures on smart walls and audio description in every technological device, so it could be fully enjoyed by everyone, including visitors with various kinds of disabilities, such as the visually impaired.”
How an Accessible Immersive Studio should be
The recommendations suggested by the founder align with the concept of an Accessible Immersive Studio, an universal design framework that strips away physical and technical barriers to achieve access equality in public spaces. In a truly accessible studio, inclusivity is directly built into the infrastructure. This is achieved through simple yet highly effective adjustments, such as implementing zero-obstacle layouts with secure floor cable ducts and avoiding the use of thick carpets to protect wheelchair users, adding tactile 3D-printed objects displayed through the screen to create more realistic experience, placing basic Braille or textured stickers that symbolize certain meanings on the objects displayed and critical equipment buttons, and utilizing QR codes that instantly play audio descriptions when scanned with a smartphone. The audio system is integrated with wireless headphone, so that the sound will not disturb other people. By shaping multi-sensory physical environments, an immersive studio provides high-tech educational contents that can be accessed by everyone.
Before ending the whole activity, the founder gave a closing statement, "We hope that today’s activity can improve the creativity of the children and become a business opportunity in the future.” The founder hoped that the Lentera Rumah Inklusif Foundation alongside Bimbingan Belajar Lentera Inklusif, and Perpustakaan Jakarta will continue the partnership to build and develop the potential of young generations, so that they are able to be empowered through literacy to live equally and independently in society.
To sum up, the field trip was not only seen as a visit, but also a reminder that literacy belongs to everyone. This field trip demonstrated that barriers disappear as long as knowledge is made accessible for all. It proves that every child, regardless of physical ability, has the similar opportunity to learn and grow.
